1. In most cases no – there is what is known as a “5 year look-back”. Medicaid is mandated to presume any gift given in the last 5 years was given to qualify for Medicaid and therefore creates an ineligibility period.
  2. There are some exceptions with strict and specific requirements – the general categories it may be possible to gift to without an ineligibility period are:
    • Disabled children
    • A home to a sibling when the sibling lived with applicant for one year and had an ownership interest
    • A home when an adult child lived with applicant for 2 years
